One popular pose that has garnered widespread popularity among newborn parents is the Froggy Pose. This unique and adorable pose showcases the baby curled up with their hands supporting their chin, resembling a frog. Due to the newborn’s delicate anatomy and the complicated posing process, only experienced and trained photographers should execute a froggy pose. Always remember that the safety and well-being of your newborn should never be compromised for the sake of a photograph.

Safety During Froggy Pose

Babies are incredibly fragile, and it’s important to remember this when posing them in these complicated poses. Their tiny airway is no bigger or sturdier than a plastic straw, and can become obstructed easily. This is why a photographer’s assistant should be constantly watching your baby – monitoring them for signs of stress or discomfort. The assistant is also their to support baby during posing and make sure they are always comfortable.

The Secret to Froggy Pose

Because it’s important for the photographer or their assistant to never leave baby unsupported, professional photographers must know how to work a little magic in photoshop to achieve froggy. Once baby is in position, the assistant supports baby’s wrists while the photographer captures the image. Once that image is captured, the assistant then moves their hand to the back of baby’s head. It’s important to note that the assistant should not be pushing down or pulling up on baby’s head while supporting in this pose; rather allowing the weight of baby’s head to rest on their hand. This ensures baby’s airway is always open and they are breathing normally and unrestricted.

Once both images are captured, the photographer can blend them together in photoshop to create that popular pose!

The Froggy Pose should always be done as a composite – with either the parents or photographer’s assistant providing an extra set of hands for support at all times. This is the only safe way to perform this pose.
