Keeping Babies Safe: Top Priority in My Newborn Photo Studio

As an Oklahoma City newborn photographer, nothing is more important than ensuring the safety and well-being of the precious little babies I have the privilege to photograph. Newborn sessions are not only about creating amazing images that families will treasure forever but also about providing a safe, hygienic, and stress-free environment for both babies and parents. In this blog post, I’ll walk you through the steps I take to prioritize safety and cleanliness in my OKC newborn studio.

1. Clean Newborn Photo Studio

Newborns have super new and fragile immune systems – especially those preemie babies – which makes a clean environment really important. Here’s how I maintain a spotless studio:

  • Daily Cleaning Routine: Before and after each session, the studio is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. This includes wiping down surfaces, vacuuming, and disinfecting high-touch areas like door handles and light switches.
  • Hand Hygiene: I wash my hands frequently during each session and use hand sanitizer to ensure I am not transferring any germs.
  • Air Quality: I use a HEPA air purifier to keep the air clean and reduce allergens in the studio.

2. Keeping Babies Safe: Vaccinated Newborn Photographer

As someone who works closely with newborns and a mom of littles myself, I know how important it is to stay up-to-date on all vaccinations to help prevent the spread of illnesses. I never skip these vaccinations, and am happy to stay up to date so I can keep snuggling your baby!

These vaccinations include:

  • Flu Vaccine: Administered annually to protect against seasonal influenza.
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Regularly updated to ensure protection against current strains.
  • RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) Vaccine: A must for protecting vulnerable newborns from this common (and scary!) respiratory virus.
  • Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis) Vaccine: Especially important for protecting babies from whooping cough, a potentially life-threatening illness.

Being vaccinated not only safeguards your baby but also brings peace of mind knowing your little one is in safe hands.

3. Clean Newborn Props

Every item that comes into contact with your baby has meticulously cleaned and sanitized. Among those items are all of my:

  • Props: From baskets to crates to those little baby beds, all props are disinfected before and after each use.
  • Blankets, Layers and Swaddles: All of my fabric pieces are laundered with baby-safe, hypoallergenic detergent after every session. I never reuse blankets or wraps between clients without cleaning them first!
  • Outfits: All of my newborn outfits are washed with baby-safe Dreft laundry detergent to make sure it’s clean and safe for your little one.

4. Keeping Babies Safe: Infant CPR Certification

One of the most important ways I am able to keep babies safe is to be Infant CPR certified. While my studio is a calm and controlled environment, I am prepared for the most unexpected things to happen. I have taken training in newborn safety and Infant CPR to make sure that I am equipped to handle emergencies. Thankfully I have never had to use this training in a real-life scenario, but I’m glad to know I have it if it’s ever needed.

Additionally, I always listen to a baby’s cues during the session and adjust the pace or positioning as needed. I will never force your baby into a pose or position they are not comfortable with, because no photo is worth risking your baby’s health and comfort.

5. Open Communication with Parents

The highest compliment I receive from parents is when they look at me and say “I trust you”. Parents’ comfort and trust in me are one of the most important things to me in my business. Before your session, I’ll send over a Newborn Prep Guide with information on how to prepare, including ensuring your baby is freshly bathed, well-fed and rested. I’m also happy to discuss any specific safety concerns or health requirements you might have! Keeping your baby – and you – safe are my top priorities in my newborn studio!

Your Baby’s Safety Is My Promise

Creating beautiful portraits of your newborn is an honor, and I take the responsibility of keeping them safe very seriously. My commitment to cleanliness, vaccination, and safe handling ensures that you can enjoy your session with confidence, knowing your baby is in the best possible care.
